Just got my hands on the new version of Cinema 4d r13.

I wanted to try and see how efficient the new physical renderer was as apposed to doing all post in After Effects. The only thing I did in After Effects was layer the clips and add music and film burns.

I of course used the GSG light kit pro to light scene and threw in some particles for a little extra.

Conclusion:
The Depth of Field and camera attributes in r13 are awesome. I love the integrated global illumination in the physical render. All in all this could have been done faster if I had done some things like composite the background, and particles in AE, but for this one I wanted to be a purist.

This turned out beautifully even though it took a little extra time.

For the past 3 years I've helped edit the 2 hour long National Street Rod Association (NSRA) DVD. Organization is key. But this year they wanted to change it up and give it a fresh look. So I packed the 5D, 7D and all my cool gear to go and shoot some magic in Louisville.

The event is from Wednesday to Sunday but I only shot Friday to Sunday. I still ended up with about 700 clips and 100+ gb of footage. I can safetly say I've had my fill of old cars.

I put together this little video of a few of the clips I shot along with some film burn effects (which may or may not be over the top)

It’s vacation season but I can’t help myself. I’ve started seeing the beauty in everything around if everything around was moving 300x faster.

I went on vacation where everyone from Memphis goes, Destin Florida. While staying at the San Destin resort I decided it would be a fun idea to wake my girlfriend up at 4:30am, drag her to the beach, set up my camera and sit for 2 hours. VACATION!!

We had to cut the first timelapse short because of the storm brewing. Which means we had to pack up quick and make a mad dash back.

Looking back now I have the same feeling I have every time I shoot a timelapse; I’m glad I had the patiece to sit there for that long. So I decided to make a little video putting together 3 of the timelases I shot.

I got a phone call a few days ago from my friends at S2N to do a quick photo shoot for a client of theirs. They were updating their product order page and needed stills taken with the new labels that S2N developed.

They just happened to have a roll of white paper there and so I constructed a mini studio using the paper and one of their register stations.

I taped the white paper over and bounced the flash off of it. The end results were pretty fantastic, and to be quite honest, look like illustrations.

In November of 2010, my friend Katie (katiesinclair.com) and I went to Oxford, MS to see a Julia Nunes show. After being blown away but how funny and awesome she was at the ukulele we decided it would be worth the hour and a half drive down there. I of course brought my camera and took some decent stills.

A couple months later in January I got a lovely email from an editor at James Madison University;

Hey Casey!

My name is Katie Hirtz and I am the Editor in Chief of a new student run music magazine at James Madison University. The feature article and cover story for our first issue is on Julia Nunes. It's a long story, but I stumbled across some photos that you took of her at one of her shows and they're beautiful. I was wondering how you normally approach requests for using your photography. We have a limited budgeted, but obviously are willing to credit you. The magazine would be distributed at no cost to students on our campus, so we wouldn't be making a profit from your images in any capacity. Let me know what you think and if we can work something out.

I look forward to being in touch with you!

-Katie

Of course I was happy to give her download rights to all the still I took. Just yesterday Ms. Katie sent me a link to the issue of JMU Off the Record with my pictures.

"If you're going to get down on Friday, make sure to memorize the calendar."

So my buddy, my pal, mi amigo Joshua Pursley (@joshuapursley) had an idea for a video to parody Rebecca Black's "Friday" video. So naturally he calls my cinematography expertise. At first I wasn't really sure what was actually going on but my job was to make it look pretty. Beat's by Philip Scilippa (Hivemynd)

This was shot with the Canon 5D and 7D. I used the Canon 24-105 f4 and Sigma 10-20mm f3.5.

New site almost totally ready. Josh Pursley has been working hard on this and we're at the final stages so all my content is going to be here again soon.
