In November of 2010, my friend Katie (katiesinclair.com) and I went to Oxford, MS to see a Julia Nunes show. After being blown away but how funny and awesome she was at the ukulele we decided it would be worth the hour and a half drive down there. I of course brought my camera and took some decent stills.

A couple months later in January I got a lovely email from an editor at James Madison University;
Hey Casey!
My name is Katie Hirtz and I am the Editor in Chief of a new student run music magazine at James Madison University. The feature article and cover story for our first issue is on Julia Nunes. It's a long story, but I stumbled across some photos that you took of her at one of her shows and they're beautiful. I was wondering how you normally approach requests for using your photography. We have a limited budgeted, but obviously are willing to credit you. The magazine would be distributed at no cost to students on our campus, so we wouldn't be making a profit from your images in any capacity. Let me know what you think and if we can work something out.
I look forward to being in touch with you!
-Katie
Of course I was happy to give her download rights to all the still I took. Just yesterday Ms. Katie sent me a link to the issue of JMU Off the Record with my pictures.
